Yoga philosophy often draws parallels between our inner state and the natural elements. This three-pose sequence can be viewed as a way to connect with the elemental forces of Earth, Water, and Space, helping you to find a natural, grounded state of calm that feels as stable as the world beneath you.

First, connect with the Earth element in Balasana (Child’s Pose). With your forehead and shins pressed firmly into the ground, this posture is the ultimate expression of grounding. It instills a sense of stability, security, and rootedness, helping to calm the chaotic energy of anxiety. You are drawing strength and steadiness from the earth.

Next, embody the qualities of Water and Air in Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-the-Wall). This pose is all about flow and release. You are reversing the typical flow of fluids in your body, encouraging a sense of ease and movement. The lightness you may feel in your legs connects you to the element of air, helping worries and heavy thoughts to simply float away.

Finally, explore the element of Space (or Ether) in Paschimottanasana (Seated Forward Bend). This introspective pose invites you to explore the vast, quiet space within yourself. As you turn your attention inward, away from the external world, you connect with the boundless, peaceful stillness that resides at your core, the space between your thoughts.
