Italy will uphold its pledges on defense and security spending, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni confirmed on Monday, underscoring the nation’s alignment with NATO goals ahead of upcoming EU and NATO summits.

Speaking to the Italian Parliament, Meloni stated that the alliance’s revised targets—3.5% of GDP for defense and 1.5% for security—are firm objectives Italy intends to meet.

“These are important commitments that Italy will respect,” Meloni declared. “We will not leave our nation exposed, weak, or unable to defend itself.”

Her remarks come as NATO increases pressure on member states to boost military readiness in the face of evolving global threats.
