The complete absence of coordination between local and federal law enforcement has been explicitly confirmed by Minneapolis police leadership. The police chief stated that the department receives zero advance notification of immigration enforcement operations, maintaining complete separation from federal activities.

This lack of coordination means local police cannot prepare for potential public safety impacts or community concerns arising from federal enforcement actions. Federal authorities plan to deploy approximately 100 agents to the metropolitan area without informing local law enforcement.

The separation reflects deliberate policy choices by Minneapolis to maintain community trust and ensure residents feel safe interacting with local police regardless of immigration status. This approach contrasts sharply with federal priorities expressed through presidential rhetoric characterizing Somali immigrants negatively.

Presidential statements during a cabinet meeting expressed desires to remove Somali immigrants from America, while city police maintain policies designed to protect and serve all residents equally. This divergence between federal and local approaches highlights broader conflicts over immigration enforcement.

City officials have used the explicit confirmation of non-coordination to reassure Somali residents about local police practices. Local leaders emphasized that approximately 80,000 Somali residents live in Minnesota with most holding citizenship or legal status, and stressed that city police remain committed to protecting all community members.
