An alleged attack on President Putin’s Novgorod region property has sparked an international diplomatic crisis that threatens ongoing peace negotiations. US President Donald Trump expressed his anger after Putin personally informed him about the incident.
Russian authorities claim that Ukraine launched 91 long-range drones toward the property during overnight hours. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that all aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed but warned that Russia’s negotiating position would be reconsidered.
Trump’s remarks to reporters highlighted his displeasure with what he viewed as an attack on a leader’s personal residence during sensitive peace negotiations. He distinguished between conventional military operations and targeting a world leader’s home, suggesting the latter creates serious diplomatic complications.
President Zelensky firmly denied the allegations, calling them fabricated propaganda designed to sabotage peace efforts. He accused Russia of creating a false narrative to justify planned strikes against Ukrainian government buildings and to undermine diplomatic progress.
The crisis emerged immediately after what appeared to be productive talks between Trump and Zelensky in Florida. The Kremlin’s subsequent announcement that Russia would reassess negotiations demonstrates how the incident has escalated into a full diplomatic crisis.
