Brad Pitt is set to reprise his role as the enigmatic stuntman Cliff Booth from Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in an upcoming spin-off directed by David Fincher. Titled The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the movie dives into the life of Booth as he maneuvers through a film industry in transition, taking place in the year 1977, eight years following the original film’s timeline.
While Quentin Tarantino has penned the screenplay for this new venture, he has opted not to direct, stating previously that he doesn’t want his final directorial work to be a sequel, despite his interest in continuing Booth’s story. Instead, the directorial reins have been handed to David Fincher, who brings his own distinctive style, known from acclaimed films like Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network, and Gone Girl. Fincher’s experience also includes directing popular Netflix series such as House of Cards and Mindhunter.
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is scheduled for a global IMAX release running for two weeks starting November 25, followed by its debut on Netflix on December 23. This new film will see Pitt joined by a talented cast including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian. The original film, set in the late 1960s in Los Angeles, had Pitt starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.
Renowned for his unique storytelling, Quentin Tarantino has previously directed a string of successful films such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. The upcoming project not only marks a return to one of Tarantino’s memorable characters but also showcases the potential for a fresh creative direction under Fincher’s guidance.
