Italy Proposes €2,500 Bonus for Young Workers with Minimal Tax Rate

Italy’s government has introduced a proposal aimed at bolstering youth employment through a financial incentive for workers under the age of 30. Announced by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the initiative forms part of the government’s 2027 budget package, which totals €26 billion. The proposal includes a €2,500 bonus for young workers, which would be taxed at a favorable rate of just 1%.

The bonus is designed to be flexible, allowing recipients to choose between receiving it in 12 monthly installments or as a lump sum. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to encourage young Italians to enter the workforce and build their careers within Italy, rather than seeking opportunities abroad. By offering this financial support, the government aims to address the ongoing challenge of youth employment and retain talent within the country.

Following a cabinet meeting where the budget package was approved, Meloni emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the professional futures of young workers. She highlighted the importance of making young Italians feel valued and encouraged by the opportunities available to them domestically.

The proposed bonus reflects the Italian government’s broader efforts to tackle employment challenges and foster a supportive environment for young professionals. By providing financial incentives, the government hopes to reduce the migration of young talent and stimulate economic growth through increased domestic employment.
